FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each nation and region will result in a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher & may display grainy or rubbery flavours.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can display a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can exhibit nicerbetter flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, most people would rather have Arabica as it is not as bitter and shows a better taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has greater fruit yield & is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast proceedure also plays a significant part in the flavour characteristics of the beans. Blending different varieties & roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & change every aspect of the roast process to develop different tastes in their coffee & maintain consistency between batches of coffee. Taste differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other factors that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted beans typcially keep more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the beans from the different areas are be more distinct in lighter roasted coffee. This is key to consider when buying coffee beans.
