FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each nation & area will result in a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours and can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher and may have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may exhibit a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have nicerbetter taste and are extremely popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but generally less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, usually people would rather consume Arabica because it is less bitter and shows a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans as it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically grown at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has a higher fruit yield & is better resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also influences a significant part in the flavour profile of the beans. Blending different types & roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control and change every aspect of the roasting process to make different flavours in their coffee and maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other aspects that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast coffee beans will retain more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the marked tastes of the beans from the various areas are be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is important to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
