FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each nation & area will result in a different taste from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours and can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher and may exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can display a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can exhibit superior taste & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but generally less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, typically people would rather consume Arabica because it is less bitter and shows a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta beans as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has a higher bean yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is because of the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting process also influences a significant part in the taste characteristics of the coffee. Blending different types and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control and adjust every aspect of the roast proceedure to develop different flavours in their coffee & maintain consistency across batches of roasts. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other aspects that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast coffee will keep more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the distinct flavours of the coffee from the different locations are be more pronounced in lighter roasted beans. This is key to think about when buying coffee.
