FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each nation & region will result in a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts & can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can exhibit a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can display superior flavour & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, many people would rather consume Arabica as it is not as bitter and has a better taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans as it is harder to grow.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually grown at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has more fruit yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting process also influences a major role in the flavour characteristics of the beans. Mixing different varieties and roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control & adjust every aspect of the roasting process to make different flavours in their beans and maintain consistency across batches of beans. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other factors that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted beans will keep more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the various regions are be more distinct in lighter roasted coffee. This is key to consider when purchasing coffee.
