FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each country & location will result in a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica species that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts and can have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and can exhibit grainy or rubbery flavours.

Most people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may exhibit a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can show superior taste & are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but generally less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, typically people would rather consume Arabica because it is less bitter & shows a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has more fruit yield and is better resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast process also plays a major role in the taste profile of the coffee. Blending different types & roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control & adjust all aspects of the roasting process to craft different tastes in their coffee & ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional factors that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted beans typcially retain more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the distinct tastes of the coffee from the various regions are be more pronounced in light roasted beans. This is paramount to think about when purchasing coffee.
