FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each nation and area will result in a distinct taste from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts and can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & can display grainy or rubbery flavours.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can exhibit a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can exhibit superior flavour & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but generally less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, usually people would rather consume Arabica as it is less bitter & exhibits a better taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans as it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically grown at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has more bean yield and is more resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting process also influences a major part in the flavour characteristics of the coffee. Mixing different types and roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control & change every aspect of the roasting proceedure to make different tastes in their beans & ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional factors that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee will keep more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the coffee from the various areas can often be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is key to think about when buying coffee.
