FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each country and area will result in a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts and can have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & can exhibit grainy or rubbery flavours.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may have a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show nicerbetter taste & are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, usually people would rather drink Arabica as it is less bitter and displays a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has a higher bean yield and is better resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast process also influences a major role in the taste profile of the coffee. Blending different types and roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control and adjust every aspect of the roast proceedure to craft different tastes in their beans & maintain consistency across batches of beans. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional aspects that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee usually retain more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the distinguishable flavours of the beans from the different areas are be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is key to think about when purchasing coffee.
