FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each country and location will result in a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts and can show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher and may have grainy or rubbery flavours.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may show a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can exhibit nicerbetter flavour & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, usually people would rather drink Arabica as it is not as bitter and shows a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often cultivated at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has more fruit yield & is more resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast process also plays a significant role in the taste characteristics of the coffee. Blending different types & roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control and adjust every aspect of the roasting process to make different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency across batches of beans. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional conditions that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted beans usually retain more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the distinct tastes of the beans from the different locations can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is important to think about when buying beans.
