FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each country & location will produce a different taste from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica species which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts and may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher and can display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can display a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show nicerbetter taste & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, commonly people would rather consume Arabica as it is not as bitter and shows a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee because it is harder to grow.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has more bean yield and is better resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast process also plays a major role in the taste characteristics of the coffee. Mixing different types & roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control & adjust every aspect of the roast proceedure to make different flavours in their beans and ensure consistency between batches of coffee. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other conditions that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast beans typcially keep more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the marked tastes of the beans from the various areas can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when purchasing coffee beans.
