FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each nation and area will produce a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica species which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours and may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and can show grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can exhibit a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can have superior taste and are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but generally less caffeine compared to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, typically people would rather consume Arabica because it is not as bitter & has a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has a higher bean yield & is more resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting process also influences a major part in the flavour characteristics of the beans. Combining different types and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control and adjust all aspects of the roast proceedure to craft different tastes in their beans & maintain consistency across batches of beans. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional factors that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted coffee usually keep more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the coffee from the different locations can often be more pronounced in light roasted beans. This is key to think about when buying coffee beans.
