FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each nation & region will make a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts & may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & may have grainy or rubbery flavours.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can exhibit a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can show superior taste & are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, usually people would rather consume Arabica as it is not as bitter and shows a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has a higher bean yield and is better resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast proceedure also influences a significant role in the taste profile of the beans. Blending different varieties & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control & adjust all aspects of the roasting proceedure to develop different tastes in their beans & ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional conditions that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roast beans typcially retain more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable tastes of the coffee from the various regions are be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is key to think about when buying beans.
