FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each nation and region will produce a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours and can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher and can display grainy or rubbery flavours.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can have superior taste & are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, many people prefer to have Arabica as it is less bitter & displays a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee as it is harder to grow.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically farmed at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has a higher bean yield and is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting process also influences a significant part in the flavour characteristics of the coffee beans. Blending different varieties and roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & change every aspect of the roast process to craft different tastes in their coffee & maintain consistency between batches of beans. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other aspects that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee typcially retain more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the various areas can often be more distinct in light roasted beans. This is important to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
