FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each country and region will make a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts & can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher and can have grainy or rubbery tastes.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may have a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show nicerbetter taste and are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine than Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, commonly people would rather have Arabica because it is less bitter & displays a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually cultivated at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has more bean yield & is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast proceedure also plays a major role in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Blending different varieties and roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control and change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to develop different flavours in their coffee & ensure consistency across batches of coffee. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other factors that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast beans usually keep more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct flavours of the beans from the various areas can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when buying beans.
