FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each country & region will result in a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours and can have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may exhibit a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior taste and are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, most people prefer to drink Arabica because it is less bitter and exhibits a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has a higher bean yield & is more resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting process also plays a major role in the taste profile of the beans. Mixing different varieties and roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control and change all aspects of the roast process to craft different tastes in their beans and ensure consistency between batches of beans. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional factors that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roast beans typcially retain more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the distinguishable tastes of the beans from the different areas can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted beans. This is important to consider when buying coffee beans.
