FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each nation & area will make a different taste from what is basically the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours and may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & may display grainy or rubbery flavours.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can exhibit nicerbetter taste & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, typically people would rather consume Arabica because it is less bitter & displays a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has greater fruit yield and is more resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roast process also influences a major part in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Blending different varieties & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control & change every aspect of the roast proceedure to develop different flavours in their coffee and maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other aspects that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans will keep more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the marked flavours of the coffee from the different regions are be more distinct in lighter roasted coffee. This is key to think about when purchasing coffee beans.
