FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each country & area will result in a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours and may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher and can display grainy or rubbery flavours.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may display a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can show superior taste & are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, most people would rather consume Arabica as it is less bitter and exhibits a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically grown at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has greater bean yield and is more resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast process also influences a significant part in the taste profile of the coffee. Combining different types & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control and change all aspects of the roasting process to make different flavours in their coffee and ensure consistency between batches of beans. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional factors that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted beans will keep more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the various regions are be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is key to think about when purchasing coffee.
