FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each nation & region will produce a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours and can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and may exhibit grainy or rubbery flavours.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can display a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have nicerbetter taste & are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, many people prefer to consume Arabica because it is not as bitter and exhibits a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually grown at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has greater bean yield & is more resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting process also plays a major role in the taste characteristics of the coffee beans. Blending different types & roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & change every aspect of the roasting process to make different flavours in their coffee and maintain consistency between batches of roasts. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other things that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast beans usually retain more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the distinguishable flavours of the beans from the various regions are be more distinguishable in light roasted beans. This is key to think about when buying coffee.
