FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each country & region will make a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours and may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & may display grainy or rubbery overtones.

Most people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can have superior taste and are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but generally less caffeine than Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, many people prefer to drink Arabica as it is not as bitter & displays a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has greater bean yield and is better resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast proceedure also influences a major role in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Blending different types & roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control & change all aspects of the roast proceedure to craft different tastes in their beans and ensure consistency between batches of coffee. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other conditions that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast beans usually retain more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the beans from the different regions are be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is paramount to consider when purchasing coffee.
