FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each nation and location will make a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts & can show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & may exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may exhibit a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, usually people prefer to have Arabica because it is less bitter & exhibits a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly grown at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has greater fruit yield & is better resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting proceedure also plays a major role in the flavour characteristics of the coffee. Combining different types and roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control and adjust all aspects of the roasting process to craft different tastes in their beans & maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other conditions that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted coffee usually retain more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinct flavours of the coffee from the different regions can often be more distinct in lighter roasted coffee. This is key to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
