FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each country & area will produce a different taste from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and may exhibit grainy or rubbery flavours.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can exhibit a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, typically people prefer to drink Arabica because it is less bitter & shows a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly cultivated at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has greater bean yield & is more resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting process also plays a significant role in the taste characteristics of the beans. Mixing different types & roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control & adjust every aspect of the roasting proceedure to craft different flavours in their beans and ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other things that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roast beans typcially keep more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the distinguishable tastes of the coffee from the different locations can often be more pronounced in light roasted beans. This is important to consider when purchasing beans.
