FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each nation and location will result in a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours and can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & may exhibit grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may exhibit a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display nicerbetter taste & are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but generally less caffeine compared to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, usually people prefer to have Arabica because it is less bitter and exhibits a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has a higher bean yield and is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting process also influences a significant part in the flavour characteristics of the coffee. Combining different varieties and roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control and adjust all aspects of the roast proceedure to develop different flavours in their beans & maintain consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other conditions that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans usually keep more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the beans from the various areas are be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to think about when buying coffee.
