FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each nation and area will result in a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery flavours.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can exhibit a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show nicerbetter taste and are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, many people prefer to consume Arabica as it is not as bitter and shows a better taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans as it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often cultivated at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has a higher fruit yield and is more resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roast proceedure also plays a significant role in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Combining different types and roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control & adjust every aspect of the roast proceedure to craft different tastes in their coffee & maintain consistency between batches of beans. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other conditions that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roast beans usually retain more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the distinguishable tastes of the beans from the different areas can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to think about when buying beans.
