FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each country and region will result in a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and may display grainy or rubbery flavours.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can show superior taste and are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but generally less caffeine compared to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, most people prefer to drink Arabica as it is not as bitter and exhibits a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans as it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often grown at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has a higher fruit yield and is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting process also influences a major part in the taste characteristics of the beans. Mixing different varieties & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & change every aspect of the roast process to craft different tastes in their coffee and maintain consistency between batches of coffee. Taste differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other aspects that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted coffee beans usually retain more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the coffee from the different locations are be more distinct in light roasted coffee. This is key to think about when purchasing beans.
