FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each nation & area will make a distinct taste from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica species that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and can have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can display nicerbetter taste & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine compared to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, typically people would rather drink Arabica because it is not as bitter and has a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has a higher bean yield & is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast process also plays a significant part in the flavour characteristics of the coffee beans. Combining different varieties & roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to make different tastes in their coffee and maintain consistency between batches of beans. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other things that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast coffee beans usually retain more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the distinguishable tastes of the beans from the different locations are be more distinct in light roasted coffee. This is important to consider when buying coffee beans.
