FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each country and region will make a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts and can show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can have a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can show superior taste and are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, usually people prefer to consume Arabica because it is less bitter & shows a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the farm, has a higher fruit yield & is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast process also influences a major role in the flavour characteristics of the coffee beans. Mixing different varieties & roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & change every aspect of the roasting process to develop different tastes in their beans and maintain consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional aspects that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted beans usually keep more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the marked tastes of the coffee from the different areas can often be more pronounced in light roasted coffee. This is important to think about when buying coffee.
