FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each country and area will make a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts and can show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and can display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can display a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can have nicerbetter flavour & are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, commonly people prefer to consume Arabica as it is less bitter and has a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has more fruit yield and is better resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also influences a significant role in the flavour profile of the coffee. Blending different types & roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control & adjust all aspects of the roasting proceedure to make different flavours in their beans and ensure consistency across batches of beans. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other things that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast beans will keep more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the beans from the various locations can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is important to think about when purchasing coffee.
