FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each nation and region will make a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & may exhibit grainy or rubbery overtones.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may display a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can display nicerbetter taste and are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, most people would rather consume Arabica as it is less bitter & exhibits a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often cultivated at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has more fruit yield & is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting process also plays a significant role in the taste characteristics of the coffee. Mixing different types & roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control and change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to craft different tastes in their coffee & ensure consistency across batches of coffee. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other conditions that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted beans usually keep more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the beans from the different locations can often be more distinguishable in light roasted beans. This is important to consider when purchasing beans.
