FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each country and location will result in a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & can exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can display a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can display nicerbetter taste & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine compared to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, many people prefer to consume Arabica as it is less bitter and exhibits a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has greater bean yield & is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast proceedure also plays a major part in the taste profile of the coffee. Mixing different types & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to make different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency across batches of beans. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional things that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted coffee beans will keep more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the beans from the various areas can often be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when purchasing beans.
