FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each country and region will result in a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts and may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery tastes.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can show a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can display nicerbetter taste and are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, most people prefer to drink Arabica because it is less bitter and exhibits a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often farmed at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the farm, has more fruit yield & is better resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also plays a significant part in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Combining different varieties and roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control & adjust every aspect of the roasting proceedure to craft different tastes in their beans and ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other aspects that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted coffee will retain more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct flavours of the beans from the different locations are be more distinct in light roasted beans. This is key to think about when purchasing beans.
