FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each nation and location will produce a different taste from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours & may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and may display grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may have a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can exhibit superior flavour & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but generally less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, most people prefer to have Arabica because it is not as bitter and displays a better taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans because it is harder to farm.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has greater bean yield & is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast proceedure also influences a significant part in the taste profile of the coffee. Blending different types and roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control & change every aspect of the roasting proceedure to make different flavours in their beans and ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other aspects that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast beans typcially keep more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable tastes of the coffee from the various regions can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is key to think about when buying coffee beans.
