FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each country and location will result in a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts & can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher & may exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can display a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can show nicerbetter taste & are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, typically people would rather consume Arabica because it is less bitter & has a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans as it is harder to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly grown at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has a higher bean yield and is more resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast process also plays a major part in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Mixing different varieties and roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & adjust every aspect of the roast proceedure to craft different flavours in their coffee and ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional aspects that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans will retain more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinct flavours of the beans from the various areas can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted coffee. This is important to consider when buying beans.
