Arabica beans are produced in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each country and region will produce a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & can display grainy or rubbery overtones.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can have a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have nicerbetter taste & are extremely renowned. 

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has more bean yield & is better resistant to insects.

The roast process also influences a major part in the flavour characteristics of the beans. Blending different types and roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & adjust every aspect of the roast process to craft different tastes in their coffee & maintain consistency across batches of beans. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional aspects that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted coffee beans usually keep more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the beans from the various regions can often be more pronounced in light roasted coffee. This is key to consider when buying coffee.
