FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each country and location will make a distinct taste from what is basically the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours & may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & can show grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can display a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior flavour & are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine than Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, many people would rather drink Arabica because it is less bitter & displays a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has a higher fruit yield & is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast proceedure also plays a significant part in the taste characteristics of the coffee beans. Blending different varieties and roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & change all aspects of the roasting process to make different tastes in their coffee & ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other factors that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted beans typcially retain more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the distinct flavours of the beans from the various locations can often be more distinct in lighter roasted coffee. This is paramount to consider when buying coffee beans.
