FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each country & region will make a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts and may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & can show grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may display a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can exhibit nicerbetter flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, many people prefer to drink Arabica as it is less bitter and shows a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly farmed at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has a higher fruit yield & is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting process also influences a significant part in the taste profile of the beans. Combining different varieties & roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control and change every aspect of the roast process to craft different tastes in their coffee and maintain consistency between batches of coffee. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional things that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast beans usually keep more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the coffee from the different regions can often be more pronounced in light roasted coffee. This is paramount to consider when purchasing coffee.
