FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each nation & location will produce a distinct taste from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts & can show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and may show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can display a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have nicerbetter flavour & are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, many people prefer to have Arabica because it is not as bitter and exhibits a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly grown at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has more bean yield & is more resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also influences a significant part in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Blending different varieties and roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control and change every aspect of the roast proceedure to craft different flavours in their beans and maintain consistency between batches of beans. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other things that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast beans typcially keep more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the coffee from the various areas can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
