FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each nation and location will make a different taste from what is basically the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts & can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & can exhibit grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may show a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can display superior taste & are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, typically people prefer to consume Arabica as it is less bitter and shows a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans because it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often grown at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the farm, has a higher fruit yield & is more resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is because of the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting proceedure also influences a major role in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Mixing different varieties & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control and adjust all aspects of the roast proceedure to develop different tastes in their beans and ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional things that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast beans typcially retain more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the distinct flavours of the coffee from the various areas can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted beans. This is key to think about when purchasing coffee beans.
