FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each nation & location will produce a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours and may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and may show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior flavour & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, typically people would rather have Arabica as it is not as bitter & exhibits a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually cultivated at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has greater bean yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also influences a significant role in the taste characteristics of the coffee beans. Blending different types and roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control and change every aspect of the roasting proceedure to make different tastes in their coffee and ensure consistency between batches of beans. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional factors that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee usually retain more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the distinct tastes of the coffee from the various regions can often be more pronounced in light roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when buying coffee.
