FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each country and region will produce a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts & may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & may exhibit grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may display a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show superior taste & are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, commonly people prefer to drink Arabica because it is less bitter and displays a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often grown at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has more bean yield and is more resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting proceedure also influences a significant part in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Combining different types & roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control & change all aspects of the roast process to craft different flavours in their coffee and ensure consistency across batches of beans. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional conditions that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee beans typcially retain more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the beans from the different regions can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted beans. This is important to consider when purchasing beans.
