FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each nation and area will make a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours and may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can have a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show superior taste & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but generally less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, typically people prefer to consume Arabica as it is not as bitter and has a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has greater bean yield & is better resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast process also plays a significant part in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Combining different varieties and roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control & adjust all aspects of the roast process to make different tastes in their beans and ensure consistency between batches of coffee. Taste differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional factors that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans usually keep more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the beans from the different locations can often be more distinct in light roasted beans. This is important to think about when purchasing beans.
