FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each nation & area will make a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts and may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher and can show grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can exhibit nicerbetter flavour and are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, usually people would rather consume Arabica as it is less bitter and displays a better taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans as it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has greater bean yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast process also influences a major role in the taste characteristics of the beans. Combining different varieties & roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to develop different tastes in their coffee and maintain consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional factors that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans will retain more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the beans from the different regions are be more distinguishable in lighter roasted beans. This is important to consider when buying coffee.
