FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each country & location will result in a different taste from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts & can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher and may show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can have a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can show superior taste & are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine compared to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, many people prefer to consume Arabica as it is not as bitter and displays a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee because it is harder to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically grown at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has more bean yield & is more resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also plays a major part in the flavour profile of the coffee. Blending different types & roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control and change every aspect of the roasting process to make different tastes in their beans and maintain consistency across batches of roasts. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional things that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted beans typcially retain more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the distinct flavours of the beans from the different areas can often be more distinguishable in light roasted beans. This is important to consider when buying coffee beans.
