FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each nation & location will produce a different taste from what is basically the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts & may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher & may have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can show a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show superior taste and are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, most people would rather drink Arabica because it is less bitter and displays a better taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans because it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly cultivated at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has greater fruit yield & is better resistant to bugs.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roast proceedure also plays a major part in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Blending different varieties & roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control and adjust all aspects of the roast proceedure to craft different flavours in their beans & maintain consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional factors that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted coffee typcially retain more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the beans from the different areas can often be more distinguishable in light roasted beans. This is important to consider when buying coffee.
