FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each country & location will produce a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours & can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher and may exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may exhibit a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can show superior flavour and are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but generally less caffeine than Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, many people would rather drink Arabica because it is less bitter and exhibits a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta beans because it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically grown at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has a higher fruit yield and is better resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also influences a significant part in the taste profile of the coffee. Blending different types & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control & change every aspect of the roast proceedure to develop different flavours in their beans and maintain consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional conditions that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted coffee usually keep more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the distinct flavours of the coffee from the various areas are be more pronounced in lighter roasted beans. This is important to think about when buying beans.
