FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each country and location will make a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can exhibit a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can exhibit superior taste & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine compared to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, typically people would rather consume Arabica as it is less bitter and displays a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the farm, has greater fruit yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast process also influences a major role in the flavour characteristics of the coffee beans. Blending different types and roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters meticulously control and change all aspects of the roasting process to develop different tastes in their coffee & ensure consistency between batches of coffee. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional conditions that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roast beans usually retain more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the coffee from the various regions are be more distinguishable in lighter roasted beans. This is important to consider when buying beans.
