FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each nation & region will produce a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours & may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can display superior flavour & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, usually people prefer to consume Arabica as it is not as bitter & exhibits a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly cultivated at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has more bean yield & is more resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting process also influences a major part in the taste characteristics of the coffee beans. Blending different types and roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control and change all aspects of the roast proceedure to craft different flavours in their coffee and maintain consistency across batches of beans. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional things that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted beans usually keep more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the distinguishable tastes of the coffee from the various locations can often be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when purchasing beans.
