FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each nation & location will produce a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and may exhibit grainy or rubbery overtones.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may display a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can display nicerbetter taste and are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but generally less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, most people would rather consume Arabica as it is less bitter and exhibits a better taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has more fruit yield & is better resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roast proceedure also influences a major part in the taste characteristics of the coffee beans. Combining different types & roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & change every aspect of the roast proceedure to develop different tastes in their coffee & maintain consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other factors that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans usually retain more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the beans from the different locations can often be more pronounced in light roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when buying coffee.
