FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each country & location will result in a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts and may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and can exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior taste & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, typically people would rather consume Arabica as it is not as bitter & shows a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans as it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically cultivated at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has more bean yield & is more resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting proceedure also plays a significant part in the taste characteristics of the coffee. Mixing different types and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control and adjust all aspects of the roasting proceedure to develop different flavours in their beans and maintain consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other conditions that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast coffee usually retain more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable tastes of the beans from the different locations can often be more distinct in light roasted beans. This is key to consider when buying beans.
