FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each nation & location will make a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours & can have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery flavours.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can exhibit a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can display nicerbetter flavour and are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but generally less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, most people prefer to drink Arabica because it is not as bitter and exhibits a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically farmed at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has more bean yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting process also influences a significant part in the flavour profile of the coffee. Blending different types and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control and change all aspects of the roasting process to make different tastes in their coffee and ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional conditions that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted coffee beans usually keep more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the distinguishable flavours of the beans from the various areas are be more distinguishable in light roasted beans. This is key to think about when buying coffee.
