FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each country and location will produce a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica species that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery flavours.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may exhibit a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can display superior taste & are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine than Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, many people prefer to drink Arabica as it is not as bitter & displays a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically grown at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has greater bean yield and is more resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast process also plays a major part in the taste characteristics of the coffee. Mixing different varieties & roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control and change every aspect of the roasting proceedure to develop different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency between batches of beans. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other conditions that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted beans typcially keep more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the beans from the different regions are be more pronounced in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to think about when purchasing coffee.
