FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each nation & location will make a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher & can display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can show a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have nicerbetter flavour & are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine than Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, typically people would rather have Arabica because it is less bitter & shows a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has a higher bean yield & is more resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast process also plays a significant part in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Blending different types and roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control and change every aspect of the roasting proceedure to develop different tastes in their beans & maintain consistency between batches of coffee. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other factors that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee usually retain more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the beans from the various regions are be more distinguishable in light roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when purchasing beans.
